It’s been a few weeks now since I’ve been « living » with the woman who will become my wife in a few years. If I’m there on a musical break, without any equipment to make a bit of music, in my head, there’s already this idea that next year, our P.P.P. Team Software should try to propose Bilou’s adventures during the « 100ko Games » competition of the future Belgian demo party.

In this month of November, I’m at Jessica’s grandfather’s who, every afternoon, watches episodes of the different series of the pay channel Canal J…. And that day, I was a bit tired of watching Sabrina the Sorceress’ Apprentice and Sister-Sister… So I tried to install an instance of Impulse Tracker II on his computer and… still in the mood for Halloween, I launched into this project using samples from Gustaf Olofsson’s « Pinball Dreams » module.

I have fun, I flesh out and I think that here is a particularly successful track for a level of Bilou and Bouli in a haunted castle… Pikaboo’s castle is obviously a little wink to the way Pype and Pierrick use to talk about little ghosts.

But the story of Pikaboo’s castle will not stop there, since first of all, in 2003, I would take the song out of its drawer to make a more modern version for the Trackers at Work Halloween Party project.

Many years later, while working on the soundtrack of Matthias Bock’s « Wolfling » project for the NES/Famicom console, I had the idea of reprogramming this composition under Famitracker… And there surprise, « But it’s a tribute to the credits of the series Are you affraid of the dark ? » I’m told on Twitter.

Wikipedia helping, it’s the series « Fais-moi peur » and I remember very well that I was watching it on Canal J at that time. So it’s quite likely that it influenced me while I was writing Pikaboo’s Castle!
