I understand that some songs are stored as "original platform" and some are encoded in various ways. I would like to see this information more clearly on the song page. It currently shows the bitrate for encoded songs but that doesn't make much sense for FLAC and it makes a difference if it's mp3 or vorbis. Wouldn't it be nicer to see: Format: [mp3/ogg/flac/mod/ym/sid/...] Size: 123456 bytes Then optionally a small amount of easy-to-find per-format metadata: (mp3/ogg...) bitrate, sample rate (mod/xm/it/s3m...) channels (flac) sample rate |

Sounds feasible to me, and a good idea to have on the page.

Could also display the sample names from tracker formats, like AMP does, since that text is so often used for information and greetings etc. But probably better to hide it behind a collapsible panel or an extra click. Some users are in the habit of pasting this stuff into the current songinfo field.

The objection I have to that, maybe, is that we would be duplicating work already done on AMP. If people want to see the module info, why not just click the AMP link? And if there is no AMP link, I think making one would be a better use of time than pasting the module info. OTOH, when there is something interesting in the module info that everyone would want to see, I think pasting it into the song info page is fine too. |
