Nectarine

The summer 2000 was very prolific, and I must admit that the brother’s performance with the realization of Out’m up, a shoot’m up programmed in a few months in Assembler, quickly gave me the hope to see a prototype adaptation of our Bilou’s Adventure to be presented during the next edition of the Belgian demoparty, the Inscene, next summer.

Aware that the project would have to fit in the 100kb category, I then launched into the project of converting a whole series of music closely or remotely related to this platform game imagined 7 years ago with our friend Pierrick. Bilou was going to give birth to our little video game team: P.P.P. Team Software.

The very first piece to be put on the Chiptunes machine would be « Summer Snow », a title started by our friend Pierrick in 1996 at home that I had then finalised. While working on this rewrite, I imagined the music in the vein of Dave Wise’s Aquatic Ambients soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country, taking our dear Bilou to an underwater lagoon!

Oh, when I talk to you today about Chiptunes sauce, in reality I was not yet using this term to describe this kind of music, but rather the « SID » version, the music format specific to the Commodore 64.
