that "modarchive" site is hugely important, a piece of history that is not well documented elsewhere (the runner-up would be Amiga AMP, but that one of course won't have all the PC FastTracker crap and what not)

water off a duck's back. the trackerscene knows that if the demoscene wants decent music in their demos there'll always be a door open
mirrorbird(02:19:52)
however it's obviously been easy for demo places to get flooded by any old random stuff. we even have ongoing arguments about game music, for the same reason, blah blah
mirrorbird(02:19:20)
and i must admit once or twice i've been the one who has sneered at 'trackerscene' as not really being a demo thing. unfairly. cause they're both (you said sth about 'outsider cultures' like a sociology academic -- they are both digital undergrounds --
atinypony(02:18:37)
yeah i only started getting into the scene at the dawn of the internet age, so i attended a couple of swap meets then filesharing hit the scene and we never had to go outside ever again
mirrorbird(02:18:29)
people who possibly never saw a demo, but really liked sharing 900-beats-per-minute gabba
mirrorbird(02:18:14)
demoscene used to be under-documented and under-loved, now it's a frickin' UN special interest or something... somebody needs to get that attentino to trackerscene, if they can make anyone believe there's a difference.

but the internet was clearly a big change, befoer that there was at least *some* local element (even if it was your local guy who happened to get all the cool stuff from XYZ country or region)
mirrorbird(02:17:08)
anyway. too late in the night to think about this. (and i have only been an extremely tangential 'scener' and i last attended any demo event in about 2012)
