it's technically a really nice 8-bit machine. but not many 'normal' people had them, just teachers' kids. i had one that i bought second-hand years later, for peanuts, it was great

faraday: the BBC (the TV network) created a computer in the early 80s, to try to promote the new computer technology -- they were expensive but seen in most schools at the time. (very nice machine too, good design)

and it was in the 8-bit character set. oh wait, i think it was Teletext which isn't ANSi/ASCII, there were some weird chars. ha ha. you've brought back memories.

there was a || symbol on the BBC micro, i'm not sure what that was. looks like a Pause button. but it had some meaning or other
