He came down from Vancouver to Washington State and brought lots of mods on tape. Gave me a bunch of the tapes, then I started getting into the software players for the mods, etc.

Well clearly not at a large scale, but the demoscene was a widespread phenomenon distributed globally where Internet was available. It was a Canadian friend who introduced me to them.

yes the website was called bit-slap, but it doesn't work anymore.. i downloaded and the mods, xms and sids from there though on my old lapotp

then i just went down the rabbithole. i already had interest in it from playing pokemon, super mario land and bros, etc. but i didn't know people made it for any other purpose other than videogames
