Jeff usually didn't use way too much resonance on filtered sounds so they sound more of the same on 6581 / 8580, and biased on very low or very high values so they weren't much wrong as if they were on normal speech-hearing area
Agemixer(00:06:06)
but there are several 6581's, mostly the same characteristics except the filter caps make on motherboard makes a huge difference against each mbrd revision

or jeff, but he is a sound nerd xD
Stinsen(00:05:30)
i agree though, those who can handle (like MoN) do really well with it

Actually some e-guitar aliie sounds better with 6581, myost of time. Completely different filter characteristics, 6581 more "warm" as many say
Stinsen(00:03:28)
but have had at least one of my demo soundtracks recorded on 6581 on YT too, and it was the best recording, even if composed for/on 8580

i have overriden composers choice of SID before, thinking it sounds better on 8580
mirrorbird(00:00:58)
it should sound like real hardware as much as possible. i don't think we postprocess (unless the song was released that way -- in which case it would be "PC" category or "Wild" or something, not SID any more)
