This is a 7-minute translation of metallica songs. I realise it was used in a demo, but come on, seriously? |

so... inactivating all cover tunes? over 1000 of them in database and of course many don't have tags. |

My logic here was that it's a crummy note-for-note conversion with little artistic merit. A number of tracks by Betrayer (Niclas Brunbäck) were deactivated for the same reason. "Covers" can be ok but there has to be some musical interpretation IMO, not straight copying. And actually, when I think of a "cover" in popular music, it means an artist made their own version of another artist's song, not an exact rendition of the original recording (we call that a "tribute band" right? who dress up as the original band and play the songs exactly the same way). Regarding the term "cover", the YouTube generation has gotten really confused and sometimes calls these "remixes", and we seem to have that terminology here on Necta too. In any case, I would call these Metallica tracks "conversions", and no, I don't think we should have conversions on the stream. |

Conversion issues aside, "little artistic merit" could be an extremely slippery slope! |

Right, I'm talking about "a conversion with little artistic merit". Not artistic merit in general. |
