Can we also talk about small towns in other countries? For example, everyone who has been to Sweden has been to Stockholm, but where else have you spent some time? I spent several weeks in Ransäter and went to the dragspelstämman. I have also been to Gävle, since my girlfriend at the time had relatives there, and Örebro, to visit an exchange student who had spent time in our town in the USA. In Japan I went to Hiroshima to visit some friends, and it seemed like a nice town. Have also been to Hakone, which is a hot-spring resort town near Mt Fuji, but I'm not sure if that counts because the whole area is a prominent tourist destination. I have been to Hawaii twice -- the first time was in Honolulu which is IMO a horrible place and should be avoided at all costs, but my friends lived there so I was stuck that time. On the next trip I stayed with different friends who lived in Hilo, and that's a very different part of Hawaii, full of jungle and weird rocky beaches. For major towns, I have been to London in UK (and also London, Ontario as well as London, Ohio, lol), Paris, Malmö, Helsinki, Tokyo, Toronto, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, and maybe some others I'm not remembering. I was in Paris for over a month, but most of those other towns for less than a week... If any of you have been anywhere in the USA besides California, New York, or Washington DC, I would like to know! |

My small list of visited countries: (, [Glasgow, Edinburgh, and tiny off-the-grid Drumnadrochit], [childhood holiday somewhere, sheep and soft water!]), (all over the place: Paris, Tours, Marseilles, Les Sables d'Olonne, Cannes, Nices, Antibes...) and (little French adjunct with casinos, castle and cactus), and (Krakow and Trenčín, demoparty weekends), (Toronto [family], Winnipeg [ex-wife's family]), (Hanko, Vantaa... dated Finn girl for 4 years, lots of snow and good joulupöytä). Transport changes only: (to reach Slovakia), (to get somewhere or other; and had lunch in NY when I was at Niagara Falls). I don't particularly like travelling, feels more hassle than it's worth. I'm (boringly) just as happy reading about a place in a book. Having said that, something about the remote South Pacific vaguely appeals to me. |
