i remember i always also had to cut the very start off too, as for me it always created a small peak there, i cut it out and put a millisecond fade in at the start or something

Yeah, there are quite some differencies which player you use how well it keeps sync on some tunes. Vice does actually seem to have the worst emulation from samples

lemo: my guess is the play routine itself and depends on that player, there are tad different delays in SID write commands
