flagmirrorbird

you can always use C and do the hard parts in asm{}

flagAgemixer
6 June 2025 20:32

or custom refresh ratios and such

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:32

i dunno, i came to PC world in 1995 or so

flagAgemixer

the old monitors back then allowed some kinda "twig VGA"(?!) modes back in the day, allowing insane stuff performed realtime

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:29

and thats great

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:28

everyone "fools the eye" like magicians did in the day, even today like always with demoscene

flagAgemixer
6 June 2025 20:28

franz: Early 90's. Because the CPU and stuff was already hard to manage with just asm. i assume..

flagfranz_opa
6 June 2025 20:25

for PC it was somewhere in the mid 1990s when people started to realize that C compilers were good enough to write demos without assembly

flagserpent

hey fara

flagserpent

'modern' cross-platform tooling can make quite a difference

flagAgemixer
6 June 2025 20:21

yeah, not anymore. There were plenty of good tools though

I use C and C++ on MAC System 7.5.5 but it's a weird experience. The ToolBOX ROM API is very 1980s

flagfranz_opa
6 June 2025 20:21

with amiga's assembly, what's the difference between 80s stuff and modern?

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:21

like when i tried back in 80s, with seka assembly

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:20

with 80s stuff

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:20

well, no one codes 80s stuff thats for sure

flagAgemixer
6 June 2025 20:19

asm atleast for A500, i guess

flagserpent
6 June 2025 20:19

i think all 060 things they use C at least

flagfranz_opa
6 June 2025 20:18

i think most of demo programmers still use asm for amiga

flagfranz_opa
6 June 2025 20:18

and do they still use? i'm not exactly sure. i've tried to ask for several times

flagfranz_opa
6 June 2025 20:18

assembly
